On October 20, the Snowbirds wrapped up their 2017 air show season, with their Year End show in Moose Jaw.
The show featured a near flawless performance, with blue skies and no wind (which is almost always the case in Moose Jaw).
A formal dinner was held on the Friday evening, where new wingers and a new Boss were introduced. Major Denis Bandet takes the reigns as Snowbird 1, for the 2018/19 season. Major Bandet previously flew with the Snowbirds during the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons, as Snowbird #6. Before joining the Snowbirds, Major Bandet had flown the CF-18 Hornet in Cold Lake, AB. Major Bandet takes over from out-going Boss, Major Patrick Gobeil.
Departing the team at the end of the 2017 season are Snowbird #2, Captain Ave Pyne, Snowbird 5, Captain Matt Hart, Snowbird 7, Captain Maciej Hatta, Snowbird 9, Captain Craig Sharp and Snowbird 11, Captain Paul Faulkner. In addition, Major Yanick Gregoire, who flew as Snowbird 1 during the 2016 season, is also departing the team. Best wishes to all of the new and departing members of the team.
With the 2017 season in the books, the 2018 team is currently taking shape at 15 Wing Moose Jaw. I wish the 2018 team a successful training season and am looking forward to the 2018 show season.
I would like to thank Public Affairs Officer, Lt(N) Michéle Trembley for the work she has done with me during the 2017 season. She granted many requests to embed with the team and I cannot thank her enough for her patience. As well, many thanks to Snowbird 10, Captain Blake McNaughton for his help and for the invite to the Year End dinner. I had a blast.
Next stop....Comox in 2018 for Spring work ups!
